Player Participation

The ORCAS league is not heavily organized. I never know how many players will show up on any given night, how many will arrive when there's a little rain, or when everyone chooses to schedule their summer holidays.

During the last two summer outdoor seasons we have had too many players turn up in May and June, by July August the numbers were just right and by September we were playing a few players short.

If we do have enough players for two full games this year we can certainly do that. However, it is more likely that we will be running a full field game and a smaller game on the sidelines for the extra players. I'll need volunteers for this smaller game and if players from the smaller game want to get into the full field game, occasionally we can make a player swap for those who wish to move. I've often found that quite a few players prefer the mini game format over the full field game anyway so it's never been a big issue, but please take your turn moving between the games as required.

For this smaller "extra player" game I have 4 popup nets that when paired together make for a decent sized net for each team. I also have plenty of cones and corner markers for both fields. We generally have no goalies in these smaller nets but a defender can play the role with no hands.

Rec League Soccer

ORCAS is a true recreation league. We have no referee or linesman so play honest and ref yourself. There is no slide tackling, fighting, or dangerous challenges. Take it easy, have fun and enjoy a trip to the George afterwards. When you arrive at each game just grab either a red or a yellow pinnie and that's your team for the night. Next week half your opponents will be your teammates.

We have some very talented players and likely a few beginners too, so please share the ball, share the substitutions (if needed) and then share a beer.

Registration

If you wish to join us this year either as a full time player or as an occasional drop-in please complete the registration form.

Even if you have filled out one of these forms before I need you to complete the form every new season and for every night you wish to register for.

We occasionally allow some experienced teenagers join in our league. If you are under 18 and wish to participate please have a parent complete the parent waiver form.

EURO 2016 Draft

Please consider registering for the EURO 2016 Draft. The cost is $25/entry and you can learn more by clicking the EURO 2016 button below.

Please bring fees to the first game. If you're an indoor player and wish to settle up earlier so save time at the first outdoor game please bring your fees to me during one of the indoor games.

Fields

This year we will be booked at the Howard Park Upper fields for May, June and July and we will be at the Howard Park Middle fields for the remainder of the season. There is plenty of parking at both locations.

Please check our location map for details.

Weather

Every night at 5:00 pm the Town of Okotoks will update the Field Status page on their website (Scroll down to see the field status report).

Anytime we have a game night and it is raining or there has been a lot of rain in previous days then the fields might be closed.

Please visit the town website at 5:05 pm on game nights and check the field status. If the fields are closed due to poor weather we cannot play that night.

However, if the weather breaks between 5:00pm and our game, and the fields aren't too sloppy we can still have a game. If you are unsure feel free to call me.
